INTERPOL, in collaboration with the German Federal Environment Ministry and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), has announced a three-year project aimed at tackling transnational environmental crime. Funded by a EUR 5 million investment from the German Government's International Climate Initiative, the initiative will focus on combating five key areas of environmental crime which include fisheries, forestry, illegal mining, pollution and wildlife offences. The project seeks to enhance capabilities and foster transnational cooperation among law enforcement agencies, whilst also providing protection for civil society organisations involved in uncovering and prosecuting environmental crimes.
