Aims and objectives

Waste policy is aimed at minimising the use of resources, and encouraging the practical application of the waste hierarchy to manage different streams of waste to reduce landfill. It also aims to minimise the negative effects of waste on human health and the environment. The Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC is the starting point for waste management and applicable controls in the EU.
